ABSTRACT
The author describes his terracing technique using the dead bamboo he finds on his hillside bamboo grove in Austin, Texas. He places bamboo poles, devoid of branch stubs, horizontally on the ground, and adds organic matter in the pockets created, which will eventually decompose and create a series of "steps" that can be used to climb up and down the hill. He also talks about how he used dead bamboo as a barrier to prevent his bamboo grove from flooding during heavy rains.
