Complications of thyroid surgery

The article discusses the various complications of thyroid surgery including airway compromise after thyroidectomy such as postoperative haemorrhage, and bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy; hypocalcaemia; recurrent laryngeal nerve injuries; and superior laryngeal nerve injuries. Also discussed are rare complications such as thyrotoxic storm, pneumothorax, and chyle leak. A brief history of thyroid operation is presented, along with relevant statistics.
