ABSTRACT
The article presents a study on the technique which could predict whether a human embryo will develop successfully, within two days after its fertilization. The study uses time-lapse video and computer software in tracking the development of a subset of 242 frozen, one-cell human embryos from an in vitro fertilization program in Illinois. It reveals that 38 percent of the embryos developed blastocysts, nearly of similar proportion which would be expected to be successful in normal pregnancies.
