ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study that determined the effect of porous pavement on underlying root growth, using porous and impervious pavement pads and profile designs with either fine sandy loam or a gravel base and compacted subgrade, and Platanus orinetalis seedlings. After two growing seasons, the study showed greater root abundance at shallow soil depths for those under pavements, while exacerbated shallow root growth was noted in pavements with a gravel base and compacted subgrade.
