Pressure sensor based on freely suspended ferroelectric liquid crystal film

We report on a pressure gauge based on a vibrating, freely suspended ferroelectric liquid crystal film, which shows some promise of being sensitive to the pressures in the range from 50 to 10[sup 5] Pa. The gauge indicates changes in resonant frequency of the film caused by changes of air pressure. Pressure measurements using such sensor have been carried out. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.
