The article analyzes what makes people want to participate in rose show competitions and why some others do not wish to join. People who enjoy rose shows like the competition. On the other hand, others choose not to participate in a society's rose show because they simply do not like the idea of competing. Also, novice exhibitors or those with small gardens are intimidated when the best exhibitors dominate a rose show and win most or all of the awards. Through education and practice, societies can interest more people to participate in competitions.
