ABSTRACT
The article discusses a short 1957 documentary film made by Australian politician William Grayden that documented the health and quality of life of the Aboriginal Ngaanyatjarra people in Western Australia. It examines the film in relation to the so-called Warburton controversy concerning the welfare and health of Aboriginal peoples in the Central Aborigines Reserve. The authors comment on the reception of the film and accusations of distortion. They also explore the reactions of Ngaanyatjarra people to representations of themselves in films and photographs.
