ABSTRACT
The article discusses Australian people of mixed Aboriginal Australian and Irish descent, nicknamed Shamrock Aborigines. It examines intermarriage between Irish and Aboriginal Australians and the children of these unions. The author considers the work of historian Patrick O’Farrell, particularly commenting on his book "The Irish in Australia." He also analyzes historic ideas about the Irish as colonizers in Australia, exploring ideas about assimilation and paternalism. Australians' views on ethnic identity and ancestry also considered.
