ABSTRACT
The article examines the thyroid disrupting chemicals (TDCs) classified as endocrine disrupting chemicals which can affect normal production of thyroid hormone. It points out that thyroid hormone is important for brain development and chemical exposure can lead to low circulating levels of thyroid hormone and altered thyroid hormone metabolism. These chemicals include polychlorinated biphenyls, phenols and phthalates. It suggests that humans are exposed to an increasing number of environmental chemicals daily which disrupts thyroid function.
