The article presents the author's views regarding the efforts of the South Dakota Ornithologists' Union (SDOU) to encourage and promote the study of wild birds in South Dakota. He states that SDOU has several endowed research and scholarship funds that support undergraduates, amateurs, and graduate students. He also states that the funds allow SDOU to support studies that increase the knowledge of South Dakota birds.
