ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the cultural aspects of immigration into the U.S., and contributions of immigrants in the arts and sciences. It discusses the country's restrictive immigration policy, the discriminatory nature of the McCarran-Walter Act, and the assumptions upon which the Act is based including the place of birth of an immigrant. It mentions the contributions of several immigrants and their descendents in the arts field including those of musicians, Leopold Stokowski, Arthur Rodzinski and Erno Rapee, in music, artists, Adolph Zukor and William Fox, in theatre and motion pictures, and sculptors like Karl Bittner in the field of sculpture. It also mentions the contributions of immigrants in fields such as scholarship and education, medical arts and research, and natural science.
