ABSTRACT
The article reports on the U.S. consumers' benefits from generic drug alternatives as several medications come with costly price tags. According to IMS Health Inc., nearly 140 billion dollars was saved to the American health care system from the generic versions of brand-name drugs. However, some consumers and providers are still concerned about the safety and efficacy of generic drugs. It notes the significant role of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for the approval of the generic drugs.
