Cool interiors arrive on the Underground

January 2011
Railway Gazette International;Jan2011, Vol. 167 Issue 1, p38

The article discusses the new features of the S Stock trains of the Metropolitan Line that will be operating on the London Underground in England. The air-conditioned trains form part of a huge order placed with Bombardier Transportation in 2003. The bodyshell design of the trains suits the loading gauge and ensures level access for boarding. The train sets also have a mix of longitudinal and transverse seating in each car. All axles of the S Stock are also powered, giving it rapid acceleration compared to the A60 trainsets.
