The article focuses on a pre-feasibility study commissioned from Roland Berger Strategy Consultants by the Breitspur joint venture of the national railways of Austria, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine which revealed that the proposed 450 kilometer broad-gauge railway extension from Kosice in Slovakia to the Wien-Bratislava region could attract 16 million tonnes of new traffic a year by 2050.
