ABSTRACT
Introduction: In the past years dynamic increase of interest in substances, which can be new generation of antifungals, is observed, because of the evolution of strains of pathogenic fungi into resistance to applied therapy. Aim of study: Aim of study was assay of antifungal activity of several compounds classified as lactones, ketones and diols against two pathogenic fungi – Trichophyton rubrum and Candida albicans. Material and methods: Antifungal activity assay was prepared according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute protocols M-51P (for filamentous fungi) and M-44A2 (for yeasts). Results: The highest antifungal activity against Candida albicans was observed for diols, high activity was observed for lactones, the lowest activity was observed for ketones. For Trichophyton rubrum the most active were lactones, less active were diols, the least active were ketones. Conclusions: Chemical structure of tested compounds determinates their antifungal activity.
