ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the history and future of company police in North Carolina. It notes that Robert Qualkenbush, president of the Company Police Association of North Carolina, has much in common with Eliot Ness who, in 1944, left law enforcement to become chairman of Ohio-based Diebold Corp., a security and bank safe company. Qualkenbush asserts that company police supplement and support state, municipal and county police agencies by taking in some of service calls that burden them.
