ABSTRACT
The article examines John Henry Newman's vision of the university in relation to his book "The Idea of a University" which was published in 1852. According to Newman, the ideal student has a delicate taste and a candid, equitable, and dispassionate mind. When he was a fellow at Oriel College in Oxford, Great Britain, Newman established a one-on-one tutorial system which is said to be unlikely to be applied among modern universities. He also believes that theology is one branch of knowledge separate from secular sciences.
