ABSTRACT
The article reports on research which was conducted in an effort to investigate whether surgical complications were related to sleep deprivation among surgeons and night shift work performed by surgeons. Researchers evaluated surgeons and surgeries in a 700-plus bed tertiary care academic teaching hospital. They found that the complication rate for procedures performed by attending surgeons and obstetricians was not greater among those who worked overnight.
