ABSTRACT
The article discusses the use of trade union banners emblems in education in Great Britain. Open University courses are designed for mainly distance teaching with study material provided in print, audio tapes, radio and television programs, some face-to-face tuition and teaching through written assignments. Students are provided with a brief account of the growth and development of various unions and with some primary sources and reproductions of banners and certificates. Further illustrations are provided in the associated twenty-minute television program which opens with shots of modern trade unionists parading their banners in demonstrations.
