ABSTRACT
According to a report from the Institute of Manpower Studies, the post-graduate students of Information Technology have been in high demand by employers. The greatly increased numbers of post-graduate students now completing courses as part of the government's IT initiative promise to help companies overcome some of their IT skill shortages. The report shows that almost all students in employment were using their IT skills in their new jobs. This was the case even when the student's first degree had been in a non-technical subject and this had been followed by a conversion course. According to the report's author Alan Gordon, Research Fellow at Institute of Manpower Studies, even as the courses ended in 1983, only 14 per cent of the students were still looking for work. Those still searching were confident that they would find a suitable job using their IT skills. Students of communications control and micro-electronics almost all found jobs in the electronics, engineering and IT sectors.
