ABSTRACT
The article discusses an activity for biology students on the creation of flu virus models that provides information on what type of vaccine is needed. The students make the models from styrofoam cups, yarn and pipe cleaners and examine how they evolve. A discussion is made on the genetic content of the virus and the creation of other strains. The class performs a reassortment activity that helps the students visualize viral evolution.
