ABSTRACT

The article presents a discussion regarding U.S. Governors and their ability to control education policy within their states. It focuses on a plan by Washington Governor Christine Gregoire to add an education secretary to the state cabinet and provides comments from Randy Dorn, the state's elected school superintendent, criticizing the proposed addition of the education secretary as unconstitutional. Efforts to alter education policy by governors in California and Oregon are also discussed.
