The article discusses the efficacy of the ConmicShield, a concrete additive that permanently inhibits microbiology induced corrosion (MIC), in addressing the problem faced by Westlake, Ohio due to the failure of a sanitary sewer interceptor line in Lorain. It says that the ConmicShield was discovered by Westlake field engineer James J. Smolik when he attended the Pumper & Cleaner Environmental Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The disadvantages of cure-in-place-pipe (CIPP ) technology are discussed.
