ABSTRACT
The article presents information on a study which examined the sensitivity of published cortisol cut-off points of the low-dose adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) test (LDAT) in children with proven mild hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis insufficiency. The test protocols and laboratory methods used, and the statistical analysis employed are detailed. The results are explained from the insulin tolerance test (ITT) and in comparison with LDAT, which showed that LDAT yielded poor sensitivity to detect mild HPA axis insufficiency.
