ABSTRACT
This article has analyzed the sections "Culture" and "Entertainment" with the objective of knowing which themes and journalistic genres are given the most attention. The study concentrates on newspapers with national publication and distribution -Reforma, El Universal and La Jornada- during the month of June, 2008. The Mexican press subordinates the Culture section and situates it as one of the least valued. Whether it be because of business or political interests or the hierarchization of thematic interests, the case is that the difussion of cultural themes loses its strength, pages, texts and even quality, converting itself into a receptable for everything that cannot be treated as entertainment. This section is not one that is given much importance in the written media. With respect to the total pages published during the month of analysis, Reforma dedicated only 3% of its pages; El Universal 4.22%; and La Jornada 8.15%. The section on "Entertainment" or "People" received 15% in Reforma; 19% in El Universal and 3.5% in La Jornada.
