Homogeneous nucleation of n-pentanol and droplet growth: A quantitative comparison of experiment and theory

Homogeneous nucleation of n-pentanol droplets and their growth was measured. Quantitative comparison between the measured experimental nucleation rates and classical nucleation theory yields a disparate temperature dependence as previously reported for other systems. Also, the experimental rates are always much higher (within the temperature range studied) than theory predicts. Droplet growth calculations according to the Fuchs and Sutugin approach were found to accurately describe the experimental growth patterns without adjustable parameters.
