Growth of homogeneously nucleated water droplets: A quantitative comparison of experiment and theory

A nucleation pulse chamber was used to homogeneously nucleate water droplets the growth of which was examined under precisely controlled conditions. Quantitative agreement between the measured experimental data and growth calculations according to the theoretical framework by Fuchs and Sutugin was found. Using calculated growth functions theoretical scattering functions were compared with experimental scattering data. Due to high data density the validity of the growth calculations could also be proved for high supersaturations (and thus high number densities of droplets) where the first Mie-maximum is not reached.
