ABSTRACT
Surrogate studies were conducted using the molten salt oxidation system at the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Indian Head Division. This system uses a rotary feed system and an alumina molten salt oxidation vessel. The combustible materials were tested individually and together in a homogenized mixture. A slurry containing pyrolyzed cheesecloth ash spiked with cerium oxide, which is used as a surrogate for plutonium, and ethylene glycol were also treated in the molten salt oxidation vessel. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

In order to solve the problems in Mg-Sr alloy prepared by direct reaction method, such as oxidation loss, high energy consumption and low electrolytic current efficiency of only strontium, Mg-Sr alloy was prepared by molten salt electrolysis with MgCl2-SrCl2-KCl molten salt. Mg2Ni is a well-known hydrogen storage alloy. Most of the preparative methods for this alloy require high temperature processing of pure magnesium and nickel. The proposed method, studied in this work, involves the production of Mg2Ni alloy directly from NiO and MgCl2 in an electrochemical cell....

Molten salt electrolysis using CaCl2 is employed to produce pure titanium and its alloys directly from TiO2 and a mixture of elemental oxides, respectively, as an alternate to the Kroll process. This is because CaO, which is a reduction by-product, is highly soluble in CaCl2. Good-quality...

Ba5Nb4O15 powders were synthesized by molten-salt method in NaCl–KCl flux at a low temperature of 650–900 °C for 2 h, which is lower than that of the conventional solid-state reaction. This simple process involved mixing of the raw materials and salts in a certain proportion....
