Recent reports have shown that uranyl complexes may exhibit Lewis basic or Bro¨nsted basic behavior in electron-rich coordination environments. In this presentation, structural, spectroscopic and chemical properties of a series of uranyl alkoxide compounds are compared in order to assess the influence of electron-donor alkoxide ligands. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Recent advances in the non-aqueous alkoxide chemistry of UO[sub 2][sup 2+] have provided the wherewithal to prepare and isolate a broad range of discrete molecular uranyl entities both as solids and in aprotic solvents in which it is possible to tune the ligand basicity and steric encumbrance....

The magnetic scattering of x-rays is a weak process, difficult to observe even with present day synchrotrons if heavy elements, with their associated high absorption cross sections, are used. The antiferromagnetic (AFM) state is investigated in the three heavy-fermion compounds URu[sub 2]Si[sub 2], UPd[sub 2]Al[sub 3], and UNi[sub 2]Al[sub 3] by measuring dV/dI(V) curves of point contacts at different temperatures 1.5-20 K and magnetic fields 0-28 T. We have performed inelastic neutron scattering experiments to investigate the magnetic excitations in UCu[sub 2]Sn, which is quadrupole ordered below 16 K. The low-energy magnetic scattering at 7 K is dominated by excitations at 4.4 and 8.9 meV which exhibit a strong temperature dependence. We...
