ABSTRACT
The article offers information on the U.S. Department of Transportation's Intelligent Transportation Systems Strategic Research Plan. The program aims to create a national, multi-modal surface transportation system leveraging next-generation communications environment. It started in 2000 and receives 100 million U.S. dollars in funding per year. The agency also aims to continue examine what technologies can help people and goods transfer from one mode of travel or route to another.
