ABSTRACT
The article discusses calls by Eddie O'Connor, former Airtricity and current Mainstream Renewable Power chief executive, for a Europe-wide supergrid. O'Connor's proposal, which involves an offshore grid that transports renewable electricity around Europe, has received pledges of support from European Union (EU) countries and the European Commission. The first phase will be to link Great Britain, Germany and Norway to neutralize wind variability.
