ABSTRACT
This article discusses a project of Thames Water to replace its cast-iron mains with more durable polyethylene pipes under its Victorian Mains Renewal programme (VMR) in England in 2010. The project included the replacement of mains and the installation of communications pipes and domestic meters in the West End and north London. Contractor Murphy also replaced fire hydrants and excavated trenches.
