ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance for leaders to tackle accountability issues. It is noted that lack of accountability weakens individual and team performance and affects top performers. Some reasons why leaders do not hold people accountable for different issues include the assumption that poor performance will improve over time, avoidance of conflicts and the fear of losing employees. Leaders are recommended to deal with accountability problems by creating conditions that allow people to follow through and encouraging them to take responsibility.
