Contemplating or reconsidering a decision to start your own financial practice? The craving to spread the entrepreneurial wings and to develop a working culture and philosophy that meshes with your internal comfort zone often collides with the anxieties and concerns of whether such a decision will fly the long run. As is common with small business start-up, the pursuit to become the boss and run the shop does not necessarily translate to happiness and contentment. For those who have succeeded, the initial decision may have been the easiest of them all. Still, with the joys, opportunities and freedom associated with being in the private sector, come the headaches, heartaches, and detours on the business road success.
In this issue's Practitioner Roundtable, we visit with four CFP practitioners who operate practices of different sizes and styles, but, interestingly, have similar outlooks about the fundamentals of managing a practice and the internal and external forces that, with time, influence how a practice is continually shaped and redefined to remain competitive, flexible and profitable in today's business environment.
