ABSTRACT
The article discusses the increasing significance of the Middle East in the petrochemicals export market. The region is undergoing a transition from low-cost commodity chemicals to more specialised products. Over the next five years, Middle East may only be able to add two new ethane crackers. Iraq is being seen as the next big player to enter the petrochemicals market, however, the country's political instability and security issues weaken its position.
