ABSTRACT
The article discusses the history and purpose of Dutch organs, particularly the ones from Laurenskerk, Alkmaar and St. Bavo, Haarlem. It explores the status of Dutch organ during the time of Dutch composer and organist Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck wherein the organ was prohibited by Catholic church authorities. It mentions the Christian Müller organ from St. Bavo which may be regarded as the most famous instrument. It adds that Dutch organ was created to conform with slow and loud singing.
