ABSTRACT
The article reports on the action plan of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address the potential health risks of nonylphenol (NP)/nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), used in industrial laundry detergents. According to the EPA, NPEs are toxic to aquatic organisms and therefore it intends to propose new rules regarding the use of the detergents. Textile Rental Services Association (TRSA) meanwhile has voluntarily phase out the use of industrial liquid detergents containing NPEs.
