Chemical Synthesis, Characterization and Thermal Analysis of Polyaniline / ZnO Nanocomposite

Over the last three decades, conducting polymers have been extensively investigated due to their wide application potentials. Among conductive polymers, polyaniline (PANI) has been of great interest to many researchers because of its reasonably good conductivity, stability, easy preparation, affordability and redox properties. But the poor processability of PANI restricts the processability of PANI. The synthesis of processable polyaniline (PANI-DBSA) has been achieved by in situ method and its formation was confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The synthesized processable polyaniline has been coated on nano ZnO powder. The composite of polyaniline and nano ZnO were characterized using Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), UV-visible and FTIR spectroscopy, X-Ray diffractometery, Photoluminescence and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The composite structure was found in the range of 30-40 nm size using different concentration level of polyaniline. The needle shaped morphology has been observed for the synthesized composite. The nano composite is being developed for various other defence applications including the sensor application.
