ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Lafayette Plaisance University City, a privately financed and operated 30 million dollars development of 938 cooperative and 1,029 rental apartments in a slum area in Detroit, Michigan. It says that the first unit of the city was opened in an effort to attract higher-income families, who moved to the suburbs, back to town. The city will occupy various one-and-two-story buildings nestled among trees and a 55-acre park with six 22-story tower buildings when completed.
