ABSTRACT
The article presents a study tracing the effectiveness of direct thrombin inhibitors (DTIs) in comparison with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) or vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after total hip replacement (THR). According to meta-analysis by C. A. Salazar and colleagues DTIs have similar effect as that of LMWHs and VKAs in prevention of VTE but higher mortality rate. A chart presenting comparison forDTIs and LMWH, is also presented.
