The article presents a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the actions needed to improve rating agency registration program and performance related-disclosures in the U.S. It explores the implementation of the Credit Rating Agency Reform Act by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It offers a model for evaluating alternative models for compensating Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations (NRSRO).
