ABSTRACT
The article presents a reprint of the editorial "The crime of mental illness," by Dr. Stephen J. Hucker and colleagues, which appeared at www.cmaj.ca. It discusses the mental health disorder among the incarcerated and how it can be resolved which include empowering an intense data collection of the prisoners' behavioral and mental health problems. It also cites the case of 19-year-old Ashley Smith who committed suicide while in custody due to a behavioral problem.
