ABSTRACT
This article discusses the adoption of Information Communications Technology (ICT) by the railroad industry. It highlights changes brought by the digital revolution to the operation, maintenance and marketing of railways. It cites the emergence of mechanical signaling in the industry. In addition, the article notes the growing role of the high-bandwidth IP-based backbone in railways.
