ABSTRACT
The article examines the dissents of New York State Court of Appeals Senior Associate Judge Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick. According to the article, her dissents reveal a liberal jurist who supports claims of equal protection, civil rights, government-provided protections or assistance and liberties. Based on her voting pattern, dissents, opinions and public statements, Ciparick believes that the judiciary is a protector of civil rights.
