ABSTRACT
This article discusses the problems that continue with products, especially children's products, that are produced and contain toxic heavy metals such as lead and cadmium. Millions of products have been recalled in the past few months in spite of rules changes made two years ago and in spite of increased retailer and manufacturer vigilance. Some of the products recalled include children's jewelry, painted furniture, and Mcdonald's drinking glasses. Problems have arisen with regard to setting standards for cadmium content, what determines if a product is a child's product, and oversight of product removal from retailers' shelves. INSET: What you can do.
