ABSTRACT
The article offers information on how presidents of nations reacted to the word "detente." In the second week of March 1976, the Soviet Union came under fire because of the Administration policy of detente, thus, President Gerald Rudolf Ford provided cover and dropped the word, while Henry Kissinger avoided using the word because its sentimentality. Meanwhile, during the summit meeting of President Richard Milhous Nixon and President Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, the U.S. press latched in detente.
