ABSTRACT
An ecosystem is a complex adaptive system with its diverse components continually interacting and thus giving rise to emergent properties that determine the trajectory of time evolution of the ecosystem. The evolutionary dynamics of species of grassland and woodland vegetation in the savannah ecosystem set in a protected area in the Central Indian Plateau were studied in this paper. These components compete with each other through inter- as well as intra-specific coupling constants to obtain resources for growth. It was found that in the absence of any external grazing pressure on the toy model, there would not exist any equilibrium point attractor for the system to settle down sufficiently after a long time. The system may thus continue to evolve along its initial trajectory, thereby retaining its initial structure and functions.
