ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a study on the impact of industrial grade noise on natural communities of birds, conducted by ecologist Clint Francis in the Bureau of Land Management's Rattlesnake Canyon Wildlife Area in northern New Mexico. Francis says that habitats can be fragmented by noise which increases in loudness and ubiquity. The study originates from a Bureau of Land Management survey on whether noisy compressors could mean fewer bird species during the breeding season. The ecologist concludes that noise changes avian biotic communities.
