ABSTRACT
The sociological theories developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Norbert Elias have common elements, a fact that enables an articulation of both, and also differences that shed light on their respective residual categories. This can be seen in a particular way by comparing two central concepts in both stances: social field and habitus. This paper argues that a dialogue between both theories could encompass some of the residual categories: in Bourdieu's case, a better explanation of social dynamics and the usage of history in understanding the social; in Elias', a clarification of the role of conflict and class struggle in the workings of social fields and habitus structuring.
