ABSTRACT
The article reports on the battle between the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) on who should regulated the unit-linked insurance plans (ULIPs) in India. It states that the verdict favors the insurance regulator. It notes that ULIPs account for close to 50% insurance business in India and IRDA has felt that SEBI had no right to interfere in the ULIP business as they were insurance products.
